"I need to fast and pray more to gain victory over these demonic attacks."
How it sounds in your head: I'm not doing enough spiritually. If I was really serious, I'd fast more, pray longer, worship harder. The spiritual disciplines will earn me breakthrough. The attacks keep coming because my spiritual life isn't intense enough to keep them away.
"Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you."
-- Luke 10:19Source: Religion twisted Jesus' statement about prayer and fasting in Mark 9:29 into a works-based formula for authority instead of a statement about faith and connection.
He's heard teachings that the most powerful spiritual warriors are the ones who fast 40 days and pray all night. His current level of discipline doesn't feel sufficient compared to these examples, so breakthrough feels out of reach.
Jesus sent out seventy regular disciples—not the twelve, not the inner circle, not the ones who'd fasted 40 days—and they came back SHOCKED that demons submitted to them. They didn't earn authority through spiritual disciplines; Jesus GAVE it to them and it WORKED immediately because authority is POSITIONAL.
I REFUSE the lie that I must earn authority through fasting and prayer. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus GIVES me authority over ALL the power of the enemy. Not some. ALL. My authority is not based on my discipline level—it's based on my POSITION in Christ. I am seated FAR ABOVE principalities and powers. IT IS WRITTEN that greater is He in me than he who is in the world. The BARAK blessing wasn't based on Abraham's prayer life—it was based on COVENANT. I don't earn victory—I ENFORCE victory that's already WON. Demons don't submit because I fasted—they submit because I carry the NAME that's above every name.
The Father isn't waiting for you to fast longer before He releases authority—He's already given you authority the moment you believed. Like the seventy who were shocked that demons obeyed them without special training, your authority isn't about your effort; it's about whose NAME you carry.
