"I need to downplay my success so I don't make others feel bad."
How it sounds in your head: Got a promotion? Better not post it. Bought something nice? Hide it when certain friends come over. Got accepted somewhere competitive? Say it was 'just luck.' I'm constantly shrinking so others don't feel small. Even my celebration is in secret.
"Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will declare what He has done for my soul."
-- Psalm 66:16Source: trauma. Fear of rejection or envy from others. Religious teaching that humility means hiding what God does.
You've seen friends pull away when you share good news. Church taught that bragging is sin, so any celebration feels like pride. You'd rather be invisible than resented.
Jesus delivered him from thousands of demons. When he wanted to follow Jesus quietly, Jesus said NO—'Go home to your friends and TELL THEM what great things the Lord has done for you.' He obeyed and 'ALL MARVELED.' His testimony was his assignment.
I REFUSE the lie that I must downplay what God does. IT IS WRITTEN that I should DECLARE what He's done for my soul—not hide it, not minimize it, DECLARE it. My testimony is not pride—it's PROOF of God's goodness. The BARAK blessing on my life is meant to be VISIBLE so others know what covenant looks like. IT IS WRITTEN that I am blessed coming in and going out—that means PUBLICLY. I will not shrink to make others comfortable. I am blessed to demonstrate that the Father is GOOD and His mercies are NEW every morning. I celebrate every victory OUT LOUD because each one points others to Jesus. The Father threw a PARTY for the prodigal—celebration is holy.
The Father didn't whisper about your breakthrough in heaven—He's SHOUTING it. He threw a party when you came home, killed the fatted calf, and invited EVERYONE. He's not embarrassed of blessing you. Why should you be?
