"I must not have enough faith because I still struggle with the same temptations after all these years."
How it sounds in your head: You're in your fifties and still battling lust, still fighting the same patterns you thought you'd have conquered by now. If your faith was real, wouldn't you be free by now? Shouldn't maturity mean these battles are over?
"O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? I thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin."
-- Romans 7:24-25Religion equates faith with INSTANT BEHAVIORAL PERFECTION, making ongoing struggle evidence of faith deficiency rather than evidence you're human and connected to a Patient Father.
You've been a believer for decades and expected to be 'over this' by now. The younger guys at church seem to struggle less, and you feel like a hypocrite still dealing with the same junk at your age.
Samson visited a PROSTITUTE in Gaza, then fell for Delilah and revealed his secret, losing his strength through repeated compromise. Yet in his final moment, God heard his prayer and gave him GREATEST victory, killing more Philistines in his death than in his entire life. Ongoing sexual sin didn't disqualify final breakthrough.
I REFUSE the lie that ongoing struggle proves faith failure. IT IS WRITTEN that even Paul cried out about the battle between flesh and spirit, finding deliverance through Jesus Christ—not through achieved perfection. Samson visited prostitutes yet God still used him mightily; Abraham lied repeatedly yet remained blessed. I am under the BARAK covenant that blessed Jacob even when he was DECEIVING his father. IT IS WRITTEN in Philippians 1:6 that He who began the work WILL complete it—I'm not the finisher, He is. My struggle is evidence I'm FIGHTING, not evidence I've failed. I declare Romans 8:1: NO CONDEMNATION for those in Christ Jesus.
The Father doesn't measure your faith by how quickly you stop struggling—He measures it by the fact you keep coming back to Him instead of running away. Like the prodigal covered in pig waste, you're embraced IN the struggle, not after you've cleaned up.
