"I must have done something to deserve this pain—it's consequences catching up with me."
How it sounds in your head: Maybe it's the years I didn't take care of my body. Maybe it's payback for past choices. I didn't exercise enough, ate wrong, stressed too much. This is just reaping what I sowed. I can't expect healing when I caused this myself.
"There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus."
-- Romans 8:1Karma theology disguised as Christian 'sowing and reaping,' making pain punishment for imperfection, turning grace into a performance-based system that contradicts the cross.
She can trace unhealthy patterns and thinks pain is just logical consequences. It feels honest to blame herself rather than presumptuous to claim healing she doesn't deserve.
He was a criminal being executed for actual crimes—fully deserving death by any standard. He asked Jesus to remember him, and Jesus IMMEDIATELY promised him paradise—no waiting period, no proving himself, instant acceptance despite fully deserving punishment.
I REFUSE the lie that this pain is deserved punishment for past choices. IT IS WRITTEN in Romans 8:1—there is NO condemnation for me in Christ Jesus. Jesus didn't take SOME of my punishment; He took ALL of it. I don't receive what I deserve; I receive what HE deserves—and He deserves wholeness, health, and blessing. IT IS WRITTEN in Galatians 3:13 that Christ REDEEMED me from the curse—sickness is curse, healing is covenant. The thief on the cross got paradise after a lifetime of crime; I get healing after imperfect health choices. The BARAK blessing isn't earned by perfect behavior—Abraham lied, Isaac lied, Jacob deceived, Judah sinned, yet ALL walked in blessing. That's the scandal of grace.
Your Father isn't tallying your health mistakes and assigning appropriate pain levels. While you're still cataloging your failures, He's running toward you with the robe of righteousness and the ring of authority because Jesus paid it ALL.
