"I lost my chance at ministry and spiritual influence because of my divorce."
How it sounds in your head: I had dreams of being an elder, teaching, leading. Now I'm permanently sidelined. The 'husband of one wife' verse disqualified me. My wisdom and years of faith don't matter—my marital failure erased my spiritual credibility forever.
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new."
-- 2 Corinthians 5:17Religious interpretation of 1 Timothy 3:2 that creates permanent second-class citizenship for divorced believers in church leadership.
He spent decades growing in faith, dreaming of serving in his retirement years. He has wisdom to offer but feels permanently benched. Watching less mature men lead while he sits silent is painful.
Deserted Paul on the first missionary journey—such a serious failure that Paul refused to work with him again and it split the ministry team. Should have been permanently disqualified. Years later, Paul writes 'Get Mark and bring him, for he is USEFUL TO ME FOR MINISTRY'—full restoration to usefulness.
I REFUSE the lie that my divorce permanently disqualified me from spiritual influence. IT IS WRITTEN that I am a NEW CREATION—old things have PASSED AWAY and ALL THINGS have become new. My ministry is not based on perfect marital history but on CHRIST IN ME. IT IS WRITTEN that He gives gifts as HE determines, not based on my past. Mark was restored to usefulness after deserting Paul, and I am restored to usefulness NOW. The BARAK blessing includes spiritual fruitfulness, and no religious interpretation can revoke what God has given.
The Father doesn't see you in the 'disqualified from ministry' category. He sees you like He saw Mark—fully restored, USEFUL, needed. While religion puts you on the bench, the Father is handing you the ball saying 'I need you in the game—your past is not the issue, your availability is.'
