"I let my children walk away from God. Their lost souls are on me."
How it sounds in your head: I raised them in church, but all three walked away. If I'd prayed more, been a better example, homeschooled them maybe—they'd still be walking with God. Proverbs says train up a child, and I failed. Their blood is on my hands.
"The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not bear the guilt of the father, nor the father bear the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself."
-- Ezekiel 18:20Misapplication of Proverbs 22:6 as a guarantee rather than a principle, making children's choices the parent's unforgivable failure.
She's watched 50 years of her children choosing differently, and every sermon on parenting felt like an indictment. The formula in her mind was: right parenting = saved kids, so unsaved kids = failed parenting.
Samuel was prophet, priest, judge, anointed kings, heard God's voice from childhood—and his sons 'did not walk in his ways but turned aside after dishonest gain, took bribes, and perverted justice.' God didn't blame Samuel or revoke his ministry.
I REFUSE the lie that my children's choices are my unforgivable failure. IT IS WRITTEN that the father does not bear the guilt of the son—each person stands before God for their OWN choices. Samuel's sons rejected his ways; David's sons rebelled; even God's 'children' (Israel) continually strayed. IT IS WRITTEN in John 6:44 that NO ONE comes to the Father unless He draws them—salvation is GOD'S work, not mine. I did my best with what I knew. I am Abraham's seed by faith, covered by the BARAK blessing that protected messy, dysfunctional families throughout Scripture. My children are not beyond His reach, and their journey is not my condemnation.
The Father is whispering that He loves your children even more than you do, that He's not done with them, and that your supposed 'failures' as a mom are covered by Jesus' blood—you're not disqualified from approaching Him about them. He's inviting you to pray from REST, not guilt, knowing their salvation was never your job to manufacture.
