"I rejected the gospel when missionaries came to my village. I had my chance and said no. It's too late."
How it sounds in your head: Decades ago, someone told me about Jesus and I laughed. I mocked them. I had the truth handed to me and I rejected it. Hebrews says there's no sacrifice left for those who reject the truth. My window closed when I said no.
"The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance."
-- 2 Peter 3:9Source: religious teaching that treats God's invitation like a one-time offer with an expiration date, contradicting His persistent pursuit of the lost.
You remember the moment you said no, and it feels like you squandered your only opportunity. Decades of living without God after hearing the gospel feels like proof that you missed your chance and the door is now closed.
God sent Jonah to Nineveh to pronounce judgment—'40 days and Nineveh will be overthrown.' But when they repented, God RELENTED from the disaster He said He would bring. He changed His declared plan because they turned. Repentance is NEVER too late when there's breath in your lungs.
I REFUSE the lie that I missed my window when I said no decades ago. IT IS WRITTEN that God is LONGSUFFERING, not willing that ANY should perish—He waited for me, pursued me, called me again and again. IT IS WRITTEN: 'While we were still sinners, Christ died for us' (Romans 5:8). He didn't wait for me to get it right; He died while I was STILL in rebellion. My past 'no' doesn't cancel His present 'yes.' Today is the day of salvation. Today I say YES. The Father is not angry that I took so long; He's REJOICING that I finally came home. Like the prodigal, I am received with celebration, not condemnation.
The Father didn't give you one chance and walk away. He's been pursuing you for DECADES, whispering your name, orchestrating moments, waiting with the patience of infinite love—and today, right now, the door is as wide open as it ever was.
