"I have to hide who I really am or people will reject me."
How it sounds in your head: If I talk about the stuff I actually care about, they'll think I'm a loser. I have to pretend to like what they like and laugh at their jokes even when they're not funny. The real me isn't cool enough, so I have to play a part just to have anyone to sit with.
"O LORD, You have searched me and known me. You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off. You comprehend my path and my lying down, And are acquainted with all my ways."
-- Psalm 139:1-3Enemy deception teaching him that acceptance requires performance, that his true self is unacceptable, building a prison of pretending.
When he mentioned his actual interests once, he got a weird look or a dismissive comment. He's watched other kids get mocked for being 'different,' so hiding feels like survival, not choice.
A short, corrupt tax collector so desperate for connection he climbed a tree like a kid, knowing everyone hated him. Jesus didn't wait for him to change first—He invited Himself to Zacchaeus's house WHILE he was still a thief, and the acceptance produced instant transformation.
I REFUSE the lie that I must hide to be accepted! IT IS WRITTEN that God has searched me and KNOWN me—every part of who I am—and He DELIGHTS in me! I don't need to perform or pretend. IT IS WRITTEN in Ephesians 1:6 that I am ACCEPTED in the Beloved—not because I earned it, but because I'm IN CHRIST. The same BARAK blessing that protected Jacob the DECEIVER covers me, but I don't NEED to deceive because I'm already approved! God is bringing people who will love the REAL me. I walk in authentic confidence NOW!
The Father loved you fully aware of every flaw, failure, and quirk—like Jesus calling Nathanael while knowing his sarcastic comment about Nazareth. He doesn't want your mask; He wants your mess, because that's where His grace shines brightest.
