"If people really knew me, they'd reject me. I have to hide parts of myself."
How it sounds in your head: You've learned to curate which version of yourself to show. At school you're one person, at home another, online another. You're terrified that if people saw the REAL you - your struggles, your family situation, your doubts, your quirks - they'd walk away.
"O LORD, You have searched me and known me. You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off. You comprehend my path and my lying down, And are acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word on my tongue, But behold, O LORD, You know it altogether."
-- Psalm 139:1-4Enemy convincing you that the REAL you is unacceptable, forcing you into exhausting performance mode instead of resting in who God made you.
You've seen people get judged or rejected for being authentic. Maybe you shared something real once and it backfired. So you've built walls and only show the parts you think are safe, which feels like survival.
This woman had been married FIVE times and was living with a man she wasn't married to - everyone in town knew her shame and avoided her. Jesus met her, told her EVERYTHING she ever did (fully EXPOSED), and instead of condemning her, offered her LIVING WATER. She ran back to town saying 'Come see a man who told me everything I ever did' - her hidden shame became her TESTIMONY.
I REFUSE the lie that the real me is unacceptable. IT IS WRITTEN that God has searched me and known me completely - every hidden part, every struggle, every secret - and His thoughts toward me are PRECIOUS, not condemning. Jesus exposed the woman at the well's entire past and gave her living water, not rejection. IT IS WRITTEN in Romans 8:1 there is NO CONDEMNATION in Christ Jesus - I don't have to hide or perform. I am Abraham's seed, and the BARAK covered lying, deceiving, murdering people because of COVENANT, not character. The right people will love the REAL me because the Father already does.
Your Father already knows every single thing you're hiding, and He's not waiting for you to clean up before He embraces you. He's running toward you with the robe, ring, and sandals WHILE YOU STILL SMELL LIKE PIGS, celebrating the real you that He created on purpose.
