"I have to forgive my parents before God will bless me"
How it sounds in your head: They really hurt me, but everyone says I have to forgive or I'm the one with the problem. Maybe God is withholding blessing until I can honestly say I forgive them. But I'm not there yet and I feel stuck.
"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ."
-- Ephesians 1:3Religion - making forgiveness a CONDITION for receiving God's blessing, law-based relating to God
Church teaching and Christian books make unforgiveness sound like THE unforgivable sin that blocks everything. He feels guilty for his honest anger and hurt.
The prodigal hadn't forgiven himself, hadn't made amends, hadn't processed his trauma—he came home REEKING of pig manure with a half-formed apology. The Father didn't say 'forgive yourself first'—he INTERRUPTED the apology, threw a party, restored EVERYTHING instantly. Healing came FROM acceptance, not before it.
I REFUSE the lie that forgiveness is required before blessing! IT IS WRITTEN that God HAS BLESSED me with EVERY spiritual blessing in Christ—past tense, already done! My healing and blessing don't depend on MY ability to forgive—they depend on JESUS' finished work. IT IS WRITTEN that I am blessed, loved, fully accepted RIGHT NOW. The BARAK blessing is mine by COVENANT, not by emotional perfection. God is not withholding until I 'get there'—He's already given it ALL!
Your Father isn't waiting on the other side of your forgiveness journey—He's with you IN the pain right now, wrapping the robe around you BEFORE you've processed it all. Blessing first, healing follows.
