"I have to be perfect so people will see Jesus in me"
How it sounds in your head: If I mess up, people will think Christians are hypocrites and it will be my fault they don't believe. I carry the weight of everyone's salvation on how good I act.
"No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day."
-- John 6:44Religion places evangelism responsibility on the child's performance instead of on the Holy Spirit's work and the Father's drawing.
She's been told she's a 'witness' and needs to 'let her light shine,' which sounds like she has to be flawless or she'll ruin God's reputation. Every mistake feels like she's pushing people away from Jesus.
A Samaritan woman with five failed marriages and currently living with a man she wasn't married to met Jesus, then ran to tell her whole town. Despite her messy past, many believed because of HER testimony, not her perfection.
I REFUSE the lie that I have to be perfect for people to see Jesus. IT IS WRITTEN that the Father draws people to Jesus, not my flawless behavior. I am not the Savior; Jesus is. My authenticity and His grace in my mess is more powerful than pretend perfection. IT IS WRITTEN that God's kindness leads to repentance, and I show His kindness by being REAL, not fake. I don't carry the weight of anyone's salvation. That's Jesus' job, and He already finished it. I am the righteousness of God in Christ even when I stumble in front of others. The BARAK blessing is on me by covenant, and people will see HIS faithfulness, not my performance.
The Father isn't asking you to be a perfect advertisement. He's asking you to be a LOVED daughter who points to a perfect Savior, and your mess just makes His grace look even better.
