"After 30 years of ministry, I should be further along spiritually than this."
How it sounds in your head: You've been a believer since your twenties. You should have this figured out by now. Other men your age seem so much more spiritually mature. You're still wrestling with the same old temptations, still struggling with doubt. What do you have to show for three decades of following Jesus?
"Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ."
-- Philippians 1:6Religion's performance metrics imported into relationship with Father—measuring spiritual maturity by visible fruit instead of hidden abiding.
You've watched younger pastors get promoted while you plateau. Your prayer life feels dry compared to the passion you had at 25. The scoreboard of visible ministry success suggests you've somehow missed God's best.
Caleb waited 45 YEARS in the wilderness because of other people's unbelief—decades of delayed promise through no fault of his own. At 85, God gave him the MOUNTAIN, and he was as strong as he was at 40—no wasted years, full strength restored instantly.
I REFUSE the lie that spiritual maturity is measured by years or visible fruit. IT IS WRITTEN that He who began a good work in me WILL complete it—HIS responsibility, not mine. I am not behind schedule because there IS no schedule. I am a branch abiding in the Vine, and fruit comes automatically from CONNECTION, not striving. IT IS WRITTEN that His mercies are NEW EVERY MORNING—today I receive fresh grace, not grades from yesterday. The BARAK blessing over Abraham covered his lies and failures, and I am Abraham's seed through Christ—covered by something better than my track record.
The Father isn't checking your spiritual resume or comparing you to other 55-year-olds. He's running toward you RIGHT NOW with the same delight He had the day you first believed—because His love is based on WHO HE IS, not what you've accomplished in three decades.
