"Real men don't need God's help with everything - I should handle more on my own."
How it sounds in your head: You're sixty-five years old. You've built a career, raised kids, fixed your own problems. Running to God for every little thing feels weak, dependent, unmanly.
"I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing."
-- John 15:5World system programmed men that strength equals self-sufficiency and asking for help equals failure.
Six decades of solving problems conditions you to see dependence as weakness. Needing God constantly feels like admitting you're not the man you presented yourself to be all these years.
God called him a mighty warrior while he was hiding in a winepress, terrified. Gideon protested his weakness, but God said "Surely I will be with you" - and with God, this coward defeated entire armies instantly.
I REFUSE the lie that strength means independence from God. IT IS WRITTEN that without Christ I can do NOTHING - and I'm not ashamed of that truth. I am a BRANCH, and branches don't apologize for needing the vine. My dependence on Him isn't weakness - it's the position of POWER. IT IS WRITTEN that the blessing of Abraham flows on me through Christ, and that blessing operates through CONNECTION, not through self-sufficiency. I declare I am strong BECAUSE I abide, not despite needing Him. The BARAK protected Abraham even when he was weak and afraid.
Your Father isn't frustrated by your dependence - He designed you for it. He's not waiting for you to grow up and need Him less. He's inviting you to finally stop the exhausting performance of self-sufficiency and let Him be the source you were created to draw from.
