"I have a disease I can't cure. I'm powerless over this addiction."
How it sounds in your head: The medical community, the treatment centers, the 12-step programs—everyone says it's a chronic brain disease. I'll manage it like diabetes, but never be cured. Powerlessness is the first step, they say. Admitting I can't fix this is the beginning of wisdom.
"For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace."
-- Romans 6:14Source: medical model religion that makes addiction a permanent condition requiring human management instead of divine healing.
Every authority figure—doctors, counselors, sponsors—uses disease language, making it feel scientifically inarguable. Powerlessness messaging is so consistent across all recovery spaces that claiming power sounds like dangerous denial.
Man so possessed he broke chains, cut himself with stones, lived in tombs—completely overpowered by addiction to destruction. One encounter with Jesus and IMMEDIATELY he's sitting clothed and in his right mind—zero recovery meetings, instant sanity.
I REFUSE the lie that I have an incurable disease requiring lifelong management. IT IS WRITTEN that sin shall NOT have dominion over me because I am under GRACE, not law. I am not powerless—I am filled with dunamis resurrection power, the same power that raised Christ from the dead. The Greater One lives IN me, and He who is in me is GREATER than any addiction, any chemical dependency, any brain pathway. IT IS WRITTEN that by His stripes I WAS healed—past tense, finished work. I don't manage a disease; I walk in divine health purchased at Calvary. I am FREE and I am POWERFUL in Christ.
The Father doesn't see you as powerless—He sees you as a son filled with ALL the power of heaven, lacking nothing. He didn't send you to manage your brokenness; He sent His Son to HEAL it, and healing was finished 2000 years ago—you're just stepping into what's already yours.
