"I feel too deeply—I need thicker skin and fewer emotions."
How it sounds in your head: I cry at movies, songs, and conversations. I feel other people's pain like it's my own. My mom says I'm 'too sensitive.' My friends say I 'take things too personally.' Maybe if I could just feel less, I'd be easier to be around.
"Jesus wept."
-- John 11:35Enemy + world: The accuser uses a calloused culture's 'toughen up' narrative to convince you that deep feeling is weakness rather than the gift of empathy.
You've been mocked for crying or told to 'get over it' when you're still processing. You've watched stoic people get praised for emotional unavailability while your tenderness gets labeled fragile.
Called 'the weeping prophet,' Jeremiah cried so much over Israel's sin he wished his head was water and his eyes a fountain of tears. God didn't tell him to toughen up—He CHOSE him BECAUSE he felt deeply and made him a prophet to nations.
I REFUSE the lie that I feel too deeply. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus Himself WEPT—my emotions are not weakness; they're the IMAGE OF GOD in me. My empathy is not fragility; it's CHRISTLIKENESS. IT IS WRITTEN that I am fearfully and wonderfully made—that includes my tender heart. The BARAK blessing covers my sensitivity because God values FEELING over HARDNESS. I will not apologize for tears, compassion, or deep emotion. I am not too sensitive—I am AWAKE in a numb world. My feeling is my STRENGTH, not my flaw.
Your Father doesn't want you to feel less—He's the One who gave you the capacity to feel DEEPLY. While the world values emotional unavailability, He values COMPASSION. Jesus didn't have thick skin; He had a TENDER HEART that moved Him to miracles.
