"I failed as a spiritual leader and now it's too late to fix it"
How it sounds in your head: I didn't pray with my kids enough. I missed church. I prioritized work over spiritual things. My family's struggles are because I wasn't the priest of my home. I can't undo decades of failure.
"The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not bear the guilt of the father, nor the father bear the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself."
-- Ezekiel 18:20Religious teaching that makes men the sole spiritual determinant of their family's outcomes, creating false guilt.
He sees adult children struggling and assumes it's his fault. Decades of sermons about being 'spiritual leader' make him feel like his family's salvation or struggles are his responsibility and report card.
Eli's sons were wicked priests, and though God held Eli accountable for not restraining them, young Samuel still rose up under Eli's watch and became a mighty prophet. Eli's failure didn't disqualify God's purpose in that house.
I REFUSE the lie that I'm solely responsible for my family's spiritual outcomes. IT IS WRITTEN that each person's righteousness or wickedness is their own—I am not their savior. Jesus is the way, not my performance as a dad. I am under the BARAK blessing, which covers my failures as a father. IT IS WRITTEN: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us—including my kids. My imperfect leadership doesn't cancel God's perfect pursuit of them. I release the false guilt religion placed on me. I am righteous by blood, not by parenting scorecard.
Your Father isn't holding your kids' eternity against you. He's the perfect Father who makes up for every imperfect earthly dad. He's chasing your children with the same grace He's covering you with right now.
