"I can't forgive myself, so God can't fully forgive me either."
How it sounds in your head: I know the Bible says God forgives, but I can't forgive myself for what I did. How can God forgive me when I can't even forgive myself? There's this wall between us, and it's my fault because I keep remembering and feeling guilty.
"He will again have compassion on us, And will subdue our iniquities. You will cast all our sins Into the depths of the sea."
-- Micah 7:19Religious teaching made self-forgiveness a prerequisite for receiving God's forgiveness, reversing the gospel and making her feelings the final authority over the cross.
She's carried guilt for decades and believes that if she still feels bad about it, it must not really be forgiven. The enemy uses her emotions as evidence that God's forgiveness isn't complete.
Peter denied Jesus three times with cursing and swearing, then wept bitterly. After the resurrection, Jesus didn't make Peter grovel or prove he'd forgiven himself—He asked 'Do you love Me?' three times, restored him immediately, and gave him the keys to build the church.
I REFUSE the lie that my inability to forgive myself blocks God's forgiveness. IT IS WRITTEN that God cast all my sins into the depths of the sea and remembers them no more. His forgiveness was complete at the cross, not dependent on my feelings. I am Abraham's seed, covered by the BARAK blessing that protected even when patriarchs failed repeatedly. IT IS WRITTEN that I am the righteousness of God in Christ—a GIFT, not an achievement earned by forgiving myself. The Father doesn't remember my sins, so I refuse to remember what He has forgotten. I am His beloved daughter right now, fully forgiven, fully loved.
The Father isn't waiting for you to forgive yourself—He's running toward you with the robe of righteousness already in His hands. He cast your sins into the sea before you were born. He doesn't remember them. Your guilt is not evidence of His hesitation; it's evidence that you're believing a lie. You are fully forgiven right now.
