"If I was truly filled with the Spirit, I wouldn't struggle with suicidal ideation."
How it sounds in your head: The thought 'Everyone would be better off without me' whispers in the dark, and the shame is crushing. How can the Spirit of LIFE dwell in you if death feels appealing? You've been baptized, filled, speaking in tongues—and yet here you are, ideating. You must be doing something terribly wrong, or you're not actually His.
"But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a broom tree. And he prayed that he might die, and said, 'It is enough! Now, LORD, take my life, for I am no better than my fathers!'"
-- 1 Kings 19:4Religion taught you the Spirit's indwelling means immunity to dark thoughts, making suicidal ideation evidence of spiritual vacancy instead of biochemical crisis.
The contrast between 'abundant life' theology and your current mental state feels like proof the Spirit either left or was never there. You've seen others 'radically delivered,' so your ongoing battle must mean you're uniquely broken or unfilled.
Jonah—who'd just preached revival to Nineveh—told God 'take my life from me, for it is better for me to die than to live.' Suicidal after a successful ministry moment. God didn't condemn him; He asked compassionate questions and provided shade.
I REFUSE the lie that suicidal ideation disqualifies me from the Spirit's presence. IT IS WRITTEN that Elijah—fire-calling, prophetic, POWERFUL Elijah—was suicidal, and God responded with CARE, not condemnation. My brain's crisis is not a referendum on my salvation. IT IS WRITTEN in Romans 8:38-39 that NOTHING can separate me from the love of God—and that includes depression deep enough to ideate. I am BARAK-BLESSED, and no thought can revoke that covenant. The Spirit doesn't abandon me in the dark; He's the ONE WHO STAYS when everyone else feels distant. I will get help. I will call 988. I will tell someone. This ideation is not my destiny—it's the enemy's death rattle before my breakthrough. My Father is not disappointed; He's dispatching ANGELS with provision like He did for Elijah.
Your Father isn't waiting for you to 'get it together' before He moves. He's already moving—sending help, provision, people, and interventions WHILE you're still under the broom tree. The ideation is the enemy's loudest lie right before the Father's loudest victory.
