"I deserve this because of how I lived—my past is catching up with me."
How it sounds in your head: I wasn't always a good person. I did things I'm ashamed of. Maybe this is karma. Maybe God is finally making me pay for those years of rebellion. You reap what you sow—I'm reaping now.
"I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake; and I will not remember your sins."
-- Isaiah 43:25Religious teaching of sowing/reaping as punishment combined with enemy accusation weaponizing past sin.
She remembers her wild years, the choices she regrets. She was taught 'you reap what you sow' as a threat. When sickness came, the first thought was, 'This is payback.' Shame creates a lens where punishment feels deserved and logical.
A career criminal, guilty of his crimes, dying the death he deserved—no time to make amends, pay restitution, or prove himself. Jesus said, 'TODAY you will be with Me in Paradise'—INSTANT forgiveness, INSTANT Paradise, zero payment for the past required.
I REFUSE the lie that my past disqualifies me from present healing. IT IS WRITTEN that God has blotted out my transgressions and remembers my sins NO MORE—if He forgot them, they have no power over my body now. I am NOT reaping past sin; I am reaping PRESENT righteousness as a gift. IT IS WRITTEN that old things passed away and ALL things became new—my old life is DEAD at the cross. The BARAK blessing protected liars, deceivers, and murderers because it was COVENANT, not character—I have a BETTER covenant in Jesus' blood. My past has no voice here. I stand in Christ's righteousness, and NOTHING from yesterday can steal today's healing!
The Father isn't keeping a file on your past to determine your present health—He shredded that file at Calvary and declared you NOT GUILTY. Like the father who never mentioned the prodigal's prostitutes or pig pens, only restoration and celebration, your Father mentions only your righteousness in Christ and runs toward you with healing, not a highlighter for your past mistakes.
