"I caused the divorce. If I'd been better, Dad would have stayed."
How it sounds in your head: I remember them fighting about me. Maybe if I'd gotten better grades, or been less trouble, or made Dad proud, he wouldn't have left. I keep replaying moments wondering what I could have done differently.
"I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake; and I will not remember your sins."
-- Isaiah 43:25False guilt planted by enemy through child's magical thinking and misinterpreted conflict.
He remembers hearing his name in arguments and his child's mind connected dots that don't actually connect. The burden of causation feels real because he WANTS to believe he had control—that means he could have prevented it.
Joseph's brothers ACTUALLY did something terrible—sold him into slavery and lied about his death. Yet Joseph later said 'you meant evil but God meant it for good.' If God redeemed their REAL sin into blessing, how much more does He absolve you from imagined responsibility for adult choices you never controlled.
I REFUSE the lie that I caused my parents' divorce. IT IS WRITTEN that God blots out transgressions and remembers sins no more—even imagined ones. I release false guilt that was NEVER mine to carry. Adult marriages end for adult reasons, never because of a child. I was not too loud, too expensive, too difficult, or too anything. IT IS WRITTEN that I am blessed coming in and going out. The BARAK blessing doesn't depend on perfect behavior—Abraham lied twice and stayed blessed. I am innocent, blameless in Christ, and FREE from this false burden.
The Father is kneeling down to your eye level right now, taking your face in His hands, and saying with tears, 'Son, you didn't cause this. You COULDN'T have caused this. You were never the problem—you are My beloved child, and NOTHING you did or didn't do could make Me love you any less.'
