"My body is breaking down because I broke covenant—this pain is divine consequence."
How it sounds in your head: Healthy marriages mean healthy bodies, or so they say. My arthritis, my heart, my failing systems—maybe they're all manifestations of covenant-breaking. My body is giving out because I gave up.
"Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed."
-- Isaiah 53:4-5Source: Religious teaching that physical health is directly tied to relational obedience, making your body a scoreboard of spiritual failures and God the author of punishment through disease.
The timing of health decline and the teaching that 'your body is a temple' combine to make physical deterioration feel like evidence of spiritual corruption. Seeing healthy elderly couples feels like proof.
Invalid for 38 YEARS, Jesus asked him 'Do you want to be made well?' then healed him INSTANTLY with one command. Later, Jesus found him and said 'You have been made well'—no mention of why he was sick, no accounting of sins, just complete healing.
I REFUSE the lie that my physical pain is punishment for divorce. IT IS WRITTEN: 'By His stripes we ARE healed'—past tense, finished work. Jesus already bore the punishment for every covenant I ever broke. My body is not a scoreboard of failures; it's a temple where the Holy Spirit DWELLS. IT IS WRITTEN: 'He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses.' I receive healing in my body RIGHT NOW as my inheritance, not my reward. The BARAK blessing includes 'The Lord will take away from you all sickness.' I am blessed in my body because of COVENANT, not performance.
The Father sees your pain and His heart breaks WITH you, not AT you. He's not causing this to punish you; He's touching you RIGHT NOW to heal you because that's who He is—the God who heals, not the God who punishes through disease.
