"I can't take communion or receive last rites properly because I'm remarried—I'm living in adultery."
How it sounds in your head: The priest said remarriage after divorce is adultery. Now at the end, I'm afraid to take the sacraments because I might be eating and drinking judgment on myself. What if I die in a state of sin because of my second marriage?
"There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death."
-- Romans 8:1-2Source: Religious teaching that remarriage after divorce is ongoing adultery, making the sacraments dangerous and your current loving relationship a barrier to God instead of a gift.
Church authority figures said it, Scripture seems to support it, and the fear of taking communion 'unworthily' at the end of life feels like risking your soul. Your current marriage feels like it might be the sin blocking your peace with God.
Caught in the ACT of adultery, dragged before Jesus by religious leaders ready to stone her according to the law. Jesus' response: 'Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more'—immediate forgiveness, zero condemnation, full acceptance before any behavior change.
I REFUSE the lie that my remarriage blocks me from God's presence or the sacraments. IT IS WRITTEN: 'There is therefore NOW no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.' I am NOT living in adultery; I am living in GRACE. The communion table is for sinners, and Jesus said 'Neither do I condemn you.' IT IS WRITTEN: 'The one who comes to Me I will BY NO MEANS cast out.' I receive the bread and wine as His beloved daughter, completely accepted, fully forgiven, totally clean. The BARAK blessing doesn't check my marriage license—it flows from COVENANT with Jesus. I am worthy because HE is worthy.
The Father sees you at the communion table and smiles—His beloved daughter receiving the feast He prepared. Your remarriage isn't blocking His blessing; it might be PART of His blessing, giving you companionship and love for this season.
