"I caused the divorce by being difficult or not good enough."
How it sounds in your head: They fought about me sometimes. If I'd been better, quieter, easier, maybe they'd still be together. I remember that argument about my grades, my attitude. I broke them.
"The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not bear the guilt of the father, nor the father bear the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself."
-- Ezekiel 18:20Enemy - twists child's natural self-focus to make her carry adult responsibility for adult choices.
She remembers specific fights that involved her, heard her name in arguments, notices parents seem happier apart. Her developing brain connects dots that aren't actually connected.
His brothers blamed themselves for the family torn apart by their jealousy, but Joseph declared what they meant for evil, God meant for good. The family dysfunction had PURPOSE beyond anyone's fault - God was working the whole time.
I REFUSE the lie that I caused my parents' divorce. IT IS WRITTEN that I do not bear guilt for their choices. I was a CHILD. Their adult decisions are not my responsibility. IT IS WRITTEN in Jeremiah 31:30 that everyone dies for their own sin - I don't carry theirs. The Father doesn't blame me - He holds me while I grieve what wasn't my fault. I am NOT TOO MUCH. I am NOT the problem. The BARAK blessing is mine - the same blessing that covered Joseph through family betrayal covers me. I declare: I am FREE from false guilt.
The Father sees a daughter carrying blame that was never hers, and He's running toward her to rip that backpack of false guilt off her shoulders, replace it with the robe of righteousness, and whisper fiercely: 'You didn't break anything, beloved - you're not that powerful, and this was NEVER yours to carry.'
