"God is using this disease to make me more like Jesus."
How it sounds in your head: Suffering is supposed to make me holy, right? Jesus suffered, so maybe I'm supposed to suffer too. Maybe this sickness is making me a better Christian and I should be grateful for it.
"Who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed."
-- 1 Peter 2:24Religion confused Jesus's redemptive suffering on the cross with ongoing Christian suffering, making the finished work incomplete.
Pastors quote 'we share in His sufferings' and 'refined by fire,' making it sound like sickness is part of spiritual growth. It feels selfish to want healing when Jesus suffered so much.
Disciples asked if his blindness was caused by sin to teach him something, but Jesus said 'Neither, but that the works of God should be revealed' - then HEALED him immediately. God's work is HEALING, not maintaining sickness for lessons!
I REFUSE the lie that sickness makes me like Jesus! IT IS WRITTEN that by His stripes I WAS healed - past tense, FINISHED at the cross! Jesus TOOK my infirmities and BORE my sicknesses so I don't have to carry them! I become like Jesus by HEALING others, not by staying sick! IT IS WRITTEN in 1 Peter 2:24 that healing is already mine! I am Abraham's seed under the BARAK blessing of health and life! I receive what Jesus ALREADY purchased - total healing NOW!
Your Father isn't keeping you sick to sculpt your character - He's running toward you with the finished work of the cross where healing was ALREADY purchased! Jesus took the sickness so you could take the healing - that's the exchange!
