"God is testing me by not answering. I need to prove I can endure unanswered prayer."
How it sounds in your head: Maybe God is seeing if I'll keep praying even when He doesn't answer. Maybe it's a test of my faithfulness, my persistence, my character. If I can endure the silence long enough, then I'll pass the test and He'll respond.
"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning."
-- James 1:17Religion: Testing model that portrays God as withholding to evaluate performance instead of giving freely from love.
Stories of Job and Abraham's test create a narrative that God withholds to strengthen, making every delay seem like divine evaluation. You've endured so long it MUST mean something, so framing it as a test gives the suffering meaning.
A Gentile woman asked Jesus to heal her demon-possessed daughter. Jesus initially seemed to refuse, calling her a 'dog.' She persisted with great faith. Jesus responded, 'For this saying go your way; the demon has gone out of your daughter'—INSTANT healing, not because she earned it by enduring rejection, but because her FAITH cut through to truth.
I REFUSE the lie that God withholds answers to test my endurance or prove my faithfulness. IT IS WRITTEN that every GOOD and PERFECT gift comes DOWN from the Father who has NO VARIATION—He doesn't give, then withhold, then give again based on my performance. My Father isn't the unjust judge making me beg—He's the GOOD FATHER who gives WILLINGLY. IT IS WRITTEN in Luke 11:11-13, 'If you being evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!' He doesn't TEST by withholding—He REVEALS by giving. The BARAK blessing didn't pause to test Abraham's endurance when he LIED—it PROTECTED him despite failure because it's based on COVENANT FAITHFULNESS, not human endurance. I'm not on trial. I'm in SONSHIP. My Father doesn't make me earn what He already promised.
Your Father isn't withholding the ring, robe, and sandals to see if you'll endure without them. Like the Prodigal's father, He's been WATCHING FOR YOU, ready to run the moment you turn His direction. He doesn't test by deprivation—He reveals by ABUNDANCE.
