"God is disappointed I can't forgive that person who hurt me yet."
How it sounds in your head: I know I'm supposed to forgive, but I'm still so angry and hurt. Every sermon says 'forgive to be forgiven.' I feel like I'm disappointing God by holding onto this, but I can't just let it go.
"And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses."
-- Colossians 2:13Source: misapplied Old Covenant teaching that makes forgiveness a REQUIREMENT for being forgiven instead of a FRUIT of being forgiven.
She's been taught Matthew 6:15 as a threat instead of Old Covenant context, making her inability to feel forgiving seem like it's blocking God's forgiveness of her. Every time she remembers the hurt, she feels God's disappointment.
The thief had hours to live and was in excruciating pain—no time to forgive anyone or process anything. Jesus didn't say 'forgive first, then Paradise.' He said 'TODAY you will be with Me in Paradise,' immediate and complete, zero forgiveness-performance required.
I REFUSE the lie that my inability to forgive disappoints God or blocks His forgiveness of me. IT IS WRITTEN that He forgave me ALL trespasses PAST TENSE, before I forgave anyone. My Father's forgiveness of me isn't DEPENDENT on my forgiveness of others—that's Old Covenant. IT IS WRITTEN there is NO condemnation for those in Christ. The thief on the cross got Paradise without forgiving anyone. I am covered by the BARAK blessing that protected even vengeful Jacob's sons after they murdered a city. Forgiveness will FLOW from me as FRUIT of being forgiven, not as payment FOR being forgiven. I am ALREADY forgiven. I am His BELOVED.
Your Father sees you struggling with that hurt and He's not disappointed—He's running toward you with compassion for YOUR wound, not condemnation for your process. He's already forgiven you completely, not waiting for you to earn it.
