"God gives me just enough to keep me humble, because abundance would ruin my character."
How it sounds in your head: I've heard pastors say God keeps people on a tight budget so they won't get prideful or lose their dependence on Him. Like, maybe I'm barely scraping by because God knows I'd become a horrible person if I had money. So this struggle is for my own good.
"And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus."
-- Philippians 4:19Source: Religion teaching that poverty protects character and that God withholds blessing as character insurance.
You've seen people change when they get money, and church warns about 'love of money.' So you assume your lack is God's loving protection from corruption, making you accept less as His will for your spiritual safety.
David died 'full of days, riches, and honor'—God gave him MASSIVE wealth and it didn't ruin him. He stayed a man after God's heart WHILE being incredibly prosperous, proving abundance doesn't corrupt surrendered hearts.
I REFUSE the lie that God limits me to protect my character. IT IS WRITTEN that He supplies according to HIS riches in glory—limitless, abundant, MORE than enough. I am Abraham's seed under the BARAK blessing, which includes overflow, not just-enough. God doesn't withhold good things from me; He LAVISHES them. IT IS WRITTEN that He gives us richly all things to enjoy. My character is guarded by the Holy Spirit, not by poverty. I receive abundance and steward it with a heart surrendered to Him.
The Father didn't give the prodigal a modest tunic and sandals with holes to keep him humble—He gave the BEST robe, the family ring, and threw an extravagant party. Your Father doesn't ration love to protect you; He drowns you in it because that's who He is.
