"Depending on prescriptions is worldly; spiritual people should need nothing but God."
How it sounds in your head: I remember when older saints seemed to just power through everything with prayer alone. Now I've got a drawer full of pill bottles. Have I become too reliant on the world's system instead of God's power?
"For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving."
-- 1 Timothy 4:4Religious asceticism that equates physical needs with spiritual compromise, creating false hierarchy of dependence.
There's a cultural narrative that 'the old days' were more spiritually pure when people just trusted God without modern medicine. Needing multiple prescriptions feels like I've drifted from simple faith into worldly dependence.
Naaman wanted a dramatic spiritual healing but got instructions to dip in muddy water seven times—a physical action using earthly elements. He initially resisted as too 'worldly' and simple. When he humbled himself to use the natural means God prescribed, his flesh was restored like a child's. Healing came through obedience to simple physical action.
I REFUSE the lie that physical provision is worldly compromise. IT IS WRITTEN that every creature of God is good and nothing is to be refused if received with thanksgiving—my medications are gifts. IT IS WRITTEN in James 1:17 that every good and perfect gift comes from the Father of lights, and medical science is a gift from the One who created healing compounds in nature. I am Abraham's seed, blessed in the city (where hospitals are) and blessed in the field (where healing plants grow). I receive all provision with gratitude, not guilt. My Father supplies through earth and Heaven both.
Your Father is running toward you celebrating your humility in receiving help through 'ordinary' means like prescriptions, not requiring you to manufacture spectacular testimonies. He's supplying through the very creation He made for your benefit, delighted you're receiving rather than refusing His multi-layered care.
