"Christians can't have demons, so these attacks mean I was never truly born again."
How it sounds in your head: The pastor said Christians can't be demon-oppressed because the Holy Spirit can't coexist with demons. These nightmares, this oppression, these dark thoughts—they must mean I was never saved. Maybe my conversion wasn't real. Maybe I'm fooling myself.
"Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour."
-- 1 Peter 5:8Theological error that creates false binary—either perfectly free or never saved—leaving no room for spiritual warfare against external attacks.
The teaching that 'Christians can't have demons' is widespread, and ongoing oppression feels like proof you're outside God's protection. If you were truly saved, this wouldn't be happening.
Paul, the APOSTLE who wrote most of the New Testament, had a 'messenger of SATAN to buffet' him. Not because he wasn't saved, but to keep him humble. The most saved man alive was still subject to demonic harassment.
I REFUSE the lie that spiritual attacks mean I was never saved. IT IS WRITTEN: Peter warned BELIEVERS that the adversary walks about seeking to devour—the warning is TO THE CHURCH, not to the unsaved. Paul himself, the apostle, dealt with a messenger of Satan. External harassment doesn't indicate internal absence of the Holy Spirit. IT IS WRITTEN: I am sealed with the Spirit—that SEAL is unbreakable. The armor of God is FOR BELIEVERS because we face real spiritual enemies. I am ABRAHAM'S SEED—under the BARAK covenant that protected him even when attacked. These attacks confirm my IDENTITY as a threat to darkness, not my ABSENCE from God's family.
The Father doesn't interpret spiritual attacks as proof you're not His child—He interprets them as proof the enemy KNOWS you belong to God and is desperate to make you doubt it. You're not fighting FOR your salvation; you're fighting FROM your salvation.
