"Christian leaders can't be trusted - they're all secretly messed up or will eventually hurt me."
How it sounds in your head: The pastor who married my parents got caught cheating. The youth pastor everyone loved moved away without saying goodbye. My friend's small group leader was in her DMs being inappropriate. If they can't be trusted, who can?
"Do not put your trust in princes, nor in a son of man, in whom there is no help."
-- Psalm 146:3Source: Trauma from trusted authority figures failing, weaponized by enemy to create isolation and distrust that prevents community.
She's witnessed or experienced actual leader failures - affairs, financial scandals, inappropriate relationships. The proof is in headlines, police reports, and personal experience.
Mark abandoned Paul and Barnabas during their first missionary journey - Paul refused to take him on the second trip because he 'failed.' Yet later Paul wrote 'bring Mark, for he is useful to me' - a failed leader fully restored to ministry and wrote a Gospel. One failure isn't final identity.
I REFUSE the lie that all leaders will fail me so I should trust no one. IT IS WRITTEN that I should not put ultimate trust in humans - not because they're evil, but because only God is perfect. I will not let one person's failure close me off from all community. The BARAK blessing over my life includes divine connections and spiritual fathers and mothers who will pour into me. IT IS WRITTEN that I will NEVER be left as an orphan - the Father Himself is my ultimate authority. Human leaders are GIFTS but not gods. I receive wisdom and mentorship while keeping my foundation on the Rock that never fails. I am LOVED, PROTECTED, and GUIDED by the One who never sleeps or fails.
The Father is running toward you saying, 'I know they let you down - humans will because they're broken too. But I never will. Let Me heal that wound so you can receive the safe community I'm bringing. Your discernment is sharpened, not destroyed.' He's not asking you to be naive - He's offering to be your filter and protector.
