"At my age, wanting money is worldly; I should only care about spiritual things now."
How it sounds in your head: I'm near the end—shouldn't I be more focused on eternity than earthly things? Maybe caring about finances at this stage reveals my heart isn't where it should be. Spiritual people don't think about money this close to heaven.
"The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree, He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Those who are planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bear fruit in old age; they shall be fresh and flourishing."
-- Psalm 92:12-14Source: Greek dualism that divided sacred and secular, making material provision somehow less holy than 'spiritual' concerns, contradicting God's integrated kingdom.
He's approaching eternity and feels pressure to prove his spirituality by detachment from earthly concerns. Religious teaching has made him believe desiring provision means he's not heavenly-minded enough.
At 140 years old, shortly before his death, Scripture says 'the LORD had blessed Abraham in all things.' Not just spiritually—IN ALL THINGS, including material wealth, until the very end.
I REFUSE the lie that caring about provision in my final years is unspiritual. IT IS WRITTEN that the righteous still bear fruit in old age and are FRESH and FLOURISHING. I am Abraham's seed through Christ, blessed by the BARAK covenant in ALL THINGS, not just spiritual things. IT IS WRITTEN that God gives us richly all things to enjoy—my age doesn't disqualify me from His provision. I am spirit, soul, AND body, and my Father cares about all three until I see Him face to face.
Your Father doesn't have a spiritual-only category for your final chapter—He wants you flourishing in EVERY area until you step into eternity. He blessed Abraham 'in all things' right up to the end.
