"At my age, I need to hoard what I have—giving now could mean destitution later."
How it sounds in your head: You're not being greedy, you're being realistic. Nursing homes cost $8,000 a month. Medicare doesn't cover everything. What if you live to 95? What if you need round-the-clock care? Every dollar you give away now is a dollar you might desperately need when you can't care for yourself. Generosity is a luxury for the young who have time to recover.
"Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap, which have neither storehouse nor barn; and God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds?"
-- Luke 12:24Source: Enemy—using legitimate concern for future needs to trigger hoarding, which is the OPPOSITE of the sowing that produces the very provision you're trying to protect.
The statistics are terrifying—elder care costs are astronomical, savings evaporate rapidly in medical crises, and you've watched friends outlive their resources. The fear isn't theoretical; it's based on real stories of seniors who ran out of money before they ran out of life.
God provided daily manna for Israel in the wilderness. Some tried to HOARD extra for the next day out of fear—it bred worms and stank. Those who trusted God for daily provision always had enough. The lesson: hoarding from fear produces decay; trusting God for daily supply produces sufficiency.
I REFUSE the lie that hoarding protects my future. IT IS WRITTEN that God feeds the birds who don't even plan ahead, and I am worth MORE than birds! Hoarding manna produced WORMS—giving produces MULTIPLICATION. The BARAK blessing that sustained Israel for 40 YEARS in the wilderness is mine through Christ. IT IS WRITTEN 'I have never seen the righteous forsaken or begging bread'—that's ME. I am the righteousness of God in Christ, and my future provision is as secure as His faithfulness. I sow generously now, and reap abundantly later. My senior years will be my GLORY years because my God supplies ALL my needs!
Your Father doesn't watch you anxiously counting pennies and wonder if you'll make it—He's already prepared provision for every single day you have left, and generosity TODAY activates multiplication for TOMORROW. Like the father who threw a lavish feast using resources he could have 'saved for later,' God spends extravagantly on His children because He's never worried about running out.
