"Anxiety about dying means I don't really trust God for eternity"
How it sounds in your head: I've believed all these years, but now that death is close, I'm terrified. Does this fear mean my faith was always shallow? Real Christians die peacefully.
"And release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage."
-- Hebrews 2:15Source: Religion - the false teaching that perfect faith eliminates all natural human emotions, even in the face of the ultimate unknown.
You've watched friends die 'peacefully trusting Jesus' and you're comparing your inner turmoil to their outer appearance. The cultural expectation is that seasoned saints face death serenely, making your very human fear feel like spiritual betrayal.
Jesus Himself, facing death, was in such anguish that His sweat became like drops of blood. The sinless Son of God experienced extreme physical manifestations of distress about His coming death, yet He trusted the Father perfectly throughout.
I REFUSE the lie that anxiety about death means I don't trust God. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus came specifically to release those who fear death - meaning the fear itself is common to humanity, not evidence of weak faith. Even Jesus sweat blood in Gethsemane facing death, yet trusted perfectly. IT IS WRITTEN in John 10:28 that He gives me eternal life and I shall NEVER perish - that promise doesn't depend on my emotional state. I am Abraham's seed, covered by the BARAK that cannot be reversed even by my fear. The Father isn't measuring my anxiety level - He's holding my hand through the valley.
The Father sees your trembling and He doesn't step back in disappointment - He steps closer in compassion. He's not waiting for you to be brave enough; He's already prepared a place and sent His Spirit as your escort, holding you every moment.
