"After what that pastor did, I can never trust spiritual leaders again."
How it sounds in your head: You opened your heart to leaders who used you, betrayed you, covered up sin. You volunteered for years, gave generously, confided in them—and they abused their position. Your instinct to protect yourself is screaming: never again.
"Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help. His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish. Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God."
-- Psalm 146:3-5Source: Trauma from spiritual abuse, compounded by enemy's whisper that all leaders are dangerous predators.
You have actual scars from actual people who misused actual authority. The pain is real, the betrayal happened, and your nervous system is doing what it was designed to do—protect you from further harm.
Baruch served faithfully under Jeremiah for decades, watching his ministry partner be thrown in cisterns, imprisoned, mocked—ministry looked like total failure and waste. God spoke directly to Baruch's despair: 'I will give you your life as a prize in all places, wherever you go'—instant promise of protection despite collapsing systems.
I REFUSE the lie that one broken leader disqualifies the entire body of Christ. IT IS WRITTEN that my trust belongs in God alone, not in any human system. That pastor's sin is between them and God—it does not define my future or God's faithfulness to me. IT IS WRITTEN that the God of Jacob is MY help, and Jacob was blessed even when he deceived. I am Abraham's seed through Christ, heir to the BARAK that protected liars and still made them prosper. I will not let one wound lock me out of the family God has for me.
Your Father saw every moment of that betrayal and His heart broke WITH yours, not AT you. Even now, He's preparing safe people, healthy community, leaders with actual integrity—and He's RUNNING toward you with the robe of honor they tried to strip from you.
