Too Old
"You're too young to have real mental health issues. It's just hormones or teen drama, you'll grow out of it."

How it sounds in your head: You tell an adult you're drowning in anxiety or depression and they say 'everyone feels that way in high school' or 'it's just your age.' You know something is actually wrong but every time you try to name it, you get dismissed with 'teen angst' or 'hormones' like your brain chemistry isn't real yet. You're suffering but told you're just being dramatic because you're young.

Psalm 34:18

"The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit."

-- Psalm 34:18
Enemy whispers: 'Your mental health struggles aren't real—you're just young and dramatic, you'll grow out of it.' BUT IT IS WRITTEN: Psalm 34:18 - 'The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart.' Not 'near to those who have a broken heart IF they're old enough to validate it.' NEAR. God doesn't dismiss your pain as hormones or phases—He SEES you, He's NEAR you, and your suffering is REAL to Him. IT IS WRITTEN that He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds—no age minimum on that promise.
Quick Truth: LIE: Too young for real mental health issues. TRUTH: God treated Elijah's depression seriously with care, not dismissal. (1 Kgs 19:4)

Source: Culture that minimizes teen mental health as 'phases' and 'drama,' denying the reality of brain chemistry and trauma in young people.

Why this feels true:

Every adult you tell about your depression or anxiety immediately blames hormones, school stress, or social media like those things mean it's not 'real' mental illness. You watch them take adult mental health seriously with therapy and medication but tell YOU to 'just pray more' or 'get more sleep.'

1 Kings 19:4
Elijah

Elijah, the most powerful prophet of his generation, sat under a tree and prayed to DIE because he was so depressed and anxious. God didn't say 'you're just tired' or 'pray more'—He sent an angel to feed him, let him sleep, and then asked 'What are you doing here?' treating his mental state with compassion and provision, not dismissal.

Speak this out loud

I REFUSE the lie that my age makes my mental health struggles less real or valid. IT IS WRITTEN that the Lord is near to the brokenhearted—not 'near to the brokenhearted once they're old enough to have real problems.' He is NEAR to me NOW in my anxiety, depression, panic, and pain. IT IS WRITTEN that even Elijah the prophet wanted to die from depression and God responded with compassion, provision, and presence—not dismissal. My brain chemistry is REAL, my trauma is VALID, my struggles are SEEN. I am not 'just being dramatic' or 'going through a phase'—I am a human being with a real mind in need of real help, and God takes me seriously even when others don't. He is near to me NOW, He heals me NOW, He provides for my mental health NOW because He loves me and my suffering matters to Him. I receive His peace, His presence, His provision for my mental health TODAY.

But God actually:

The Father doesn't roll His eyes at your anxiety and say 'teen hormones'—He sees the chemical storm in your brain and He ACHES with you. He's the God who treated Elijah's depression with food, rest, and gentle questions, not sermons about faith—He GETS that your brain is a physical organ that needs care, and He's providing it even now.
