"You're too young to have gone through 'real' trauma. What you experienced wasn't that bad compared to adults."
How it sounds in your head: You name what happened to you and someone says 'at least it wasn't as bad as...' or 'you're young, you'll bounce back.' Your trauma gets compared to worse things and dismissed as 'not that bad' because you haven't lived long enough to have 'legitimate' suffering. You know it broke something in you but adults minimize it because you're 'resilient' or 'still forming.'
"He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds."
-- Psalm 147:3Source: Culture that ranks trauma on a scale and decides young people's pain doesn't count as much because they 'haven't lived long enough' to have real scars.
Every time you try to talk about what hurt you, someone brings up someone else who had it worse, or says 'you're so young, you have time to heal' like that means it didn't damage you deeply. They literally minimize your trauma BECAUSE of your age.
Hagar was a young servant girl abused by her mistress, used by Abraham, pregnant and abandoned in the desert to die. She had no power, no voice, no one who cared—until God SAW her. She called Him 'the God who sees me' because He saw her trauma as REAL and worthy of divine intervention. He didn't compare her suffering to someone else's or tell her she was too young to be that damaged.
I REFUSE the lie that my age makes my trauma less real or less worthy of healing. IT IS WRITTEN that God heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds—no age minimum, no severity threshold. What happened to me HAPPENED, and it HURT, and God SEES it as real. IT IS WRITTEN that Hagar was young, powerless, and traumatized—and God called Himself 'the God who SEES' because He saw her pain as legitimate. He sees mine. I am not 'too young' to have been deeply wounded, and I am not required to compare my trauma to worse situations to validate my pain. My wounds are REAL, my healing is AVAILABLE, and God is binding up what was broken RIGHT NOW. I receive His healing touch, His tender care, His complete restoration. The Father doesn't minimize what hurt me—He SEES it, He FEELS it with me, and He is HEALING it TODAY.
The Father doesn't compare your trauma to others' and decide yours doesn't qualify—He sees the wound in your heart and He ACHES over it. He's the God who saw Hagar abandoned in the desert and intervened, who sees EVERY young person whose pain gets dismissed, and He's moving toward you with healing in His wings right now because your suffering has ALWAYS mattered to Him.
