"Your perfectionism is sin. You need to lower your standards and be more relaxed like others."
How it sounds in your head: Everything you touch has to be excellent or you feel like a failure. You can't submit mediocre work. You redo things others would leave 'good enough.' By forty, you're exhausted from the standards you can't lower, wondering if your drive for excellence is just pride disguised as diligence.
"And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men."
-- Colossians 3:23Religious teaching that excellence equals pride, comparison with laid-back personalities, wounds from being called 'too picky' or 'never satisfied.'
You've been told to 'relax' a thousand times. Others seem content with half-efforts while you're bleeding over details. Your standards isolate you and exhaust you.
God FILLED Bezalel with His Spirit specifically to create with SKILL, INTELLIGENCE, and KNOWLEDGE in every craft—excellence in detail wasn't optional; it was SPIRIT-ANOINTED. God cares about craftsmanship.
I REFUSE the lie that my drive for excellence is sin. IT IS WRITTEN to do everything heartily as unto the Lord, and God filled Bezalel with His Spirit for the PURPOSE of creating excellent work. My standards aren't pride—they're WORSHIP. IT IS WRITTEN in Proverbs 22:29, 'Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before kings.' Excellence opens doors mediocrity never will. I'm not 'too much'—I'm EXACTLY calibrated for assignments that require precision. The BARAK blessing covers my attention to detail—I am the head and not the tail BECAUSE I refuse to offer God my leftovers.
The Father isn't asking you to lower your standards—He PUT that excellence in you because the assignment requires someone who won't settle. He's not frustrated by your precision; He's PROUD of it.
