"My emotional intensity has been a burden my whole life and still is now."
How it sounds in your head: You've been called 'too sensitive' and 'too emotional' for seventy years. Even now, you cry during worship and your family rolls their eyes. You think: 'I'm still the same overly-emotional woman I've always been. It's exhausting and embarrassing at my age.'
"Jesus wept."
-- John 11:35Religious spirit teaching that emotions are unspiritual, combined with cultural pressure for women to be measured and controlled, especially older women who should be 'past all that.'
A lifetime of being dismissed as 'dramatic' or 'overreacting' has convinced you your emotional depth is a character flaw. Being told to 'calm down' for decades makes it feel true.
Jeremiah wept so intensely over Israel that he's called 'the weeping prophet,' crying, 'Oh, that my head were waters, and my eyes a fountain of tears!' God didn't rebuke his emotional intensity—He called him to prophesy BECAUSE of his deep feeling heart.
I REFUSE the lie that my emotional depth is a burden or flaw. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus Himself wept openly, and I am made in His image. My capacity to feel deeply is not too much—it's a GIFT of His design. I am blessed coming in and going out, with tears or without. IT IS WRITTEN that there is NO condemnation for those in Christ Jesus, and that includes no condemnation for emotions. The BARAK blessing flows through my sensitive heart, not around it. I am the head and not the tail, emotional intensity and all. My feelings reflect His image.
The Father is running toward you saying, 'YOUR TEARS ARE NOT TOO MUCH—I COLLECT THEM IN A BOTTLE.' He gave you emotional depth intentionally, and He's not waiting for you to become stoic. He's celebrating that you still feel deeply after all these years.
