"Your mental struggle is God's way of teaching you to depend on Him more."
How it sounds in your head: Maybe you got too self-reliant in your career success or marriage. God is humbling you with this depression to remind you who's in control. Once you learn the lesson, He'll take it away. Until then, you just have to endure.
"The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly."
-- John 10:10Twisted theology making God the author of mental illness instead of the Healer, turning Father into cosmic disciplinarian using sickness as teaching tool.
You've heard testimonies where people say 'God used my suffering to draw me closer to Him,' implying He caused it. Romans 8:28 gets twisted to mean God orchestrates pain for lessons.
Disciples asked if blindness was caused by sin (his or his parents'). Jesus said 'NEITHER'—it wasn't punishment or lesson. Then He IMMEDIATELY healed him to display God's works.
I REFUSE the lie that God authored my mental struggle as a teaching tool. IT IS WRITTEN that the thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus comes to give ABUNDANT LIFE. My depression is not God's curriculum; it's the enemy's attack, and my Father's response is HEALING. IT IS WRITTEN in 1 John 3:8 that Jesus came to DESTROY the works of the devil—sickness, oppression, and mental torment are the devil's works. I am under the BARAK blessing where God DEFENDS me against attacks, not authors them. The same covenant that protected Abraham even in his failures protects me from the lie that God is using mental illness to control me. My Father is not a taskmaster using pain to teach—He's a Healer running toward me with breakthrough. I receive abundant life NOW.
Your Father isn't orchestrating your depression to teach you dependence—He's warring against it on your behalf, providing every resource (therapy, medication, community) to set you free. He's not the author of your suffering; He's your Deliverer from it.
