"Your children's choices prove you failed as a mother—it's too late to redeem that."
How it sounds in your head: You see your adult children make choices you warned them about. You replay moments you wish you'd handled differently. Other moms have kids who followed Jesus—yours walked away. The mother-guilt whispers that if you'd done it differently, they'd be different.
"The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not bear the guilt of the father, nor the father bear the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself."
-- Ezekiel 18:20Religious teaching that children's outcomes are verdict on mother's performance, negating grace and free will.
You see the fruit of their choices. You remember mistakes you made. Friends' kids serve in ministry while yours won't come to church. Proverbs 22:6 feels like an accusation.
The father watched his son blow his inheritance on prostitutes and pig slop. He didn't chase, manipulate, or fix it. He WAITED in love—and when the son came home covered in pig filth, the father RAN to him and threw a party. The son came back BECAUSE of that kind of love.
I REFUSE the lie that my children's choices are my verdict. IT IS WRITTEN that the son shall not bear the guilt of the father—their free will is THEIRS, not my failure. The prodigal's father didn't fail—he LOVED and the son came home. IT IS WRITTEN that there is NO condemnation for those in Christ—NONE for imperfect parenting, none for mistakes. I am RIGHTEOUS by the blood of Jesus, not by outcomes. I stand in the position of the father who RAN—and my children are coming HOME to the love they saw in me.
Your Father doesn't measure your motherhood by your children's current GPS coordinates—He sees a woman who LOVED, who pointed them to Him, who did her best. He's already working in their hearts, and He's positioning YOU as the safe place they'll run to when they're ready.
