"Wanting nice things at the end of life is vain and materialistic."
How it sounds in your head: You should be focused on eternity, not earthly things. Wanting nice stuff when death is near proves you're not spiritual enough. Materialism is worldliness, and desiring comfort or luxury now is carnal.
"Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy."
-- 1 Timothy 6:17Source: Gnostic teaching that spiritual maturity means despising physical things, false humility that equates poverty with piety.
Every spiritual voice seems to contrast heaven and earth, making desire for earthly comfort feel shallow. At 90+, focusing on nice things feels like missing the point of eternity.
God made Solomon richer than any king on earth—gold, silver, ivory, exotic animals, palatial splendor. God didn't rebuke him for having nice things; He GAVE him nice things as blessing.
I REFUSE the lie that wanting nice things is materialistic. IT IS WRITTEN that God gives us richly ALL THINGS TO ENJOY. My desire for comfort, beauty, and abundance is not carnal—God PUT those desires in me. The BARAK blessing covers physical, tangible prosperity. IT IS WRITTEN that the LORD takes pleasure in the prosperity of His servant. My Father isn't a miser demanding I embrace lack. He's a generous Father who delights in giving good gifts. I am the righteousness of God in Christ, and I receive RICHLY. No guilt. No shame. The Father is RUNNING toward me with the best robe, not rags.
The Father doesn't want you to spend your final years in lack while pretending it's holiness. He wants to LAVISH you with good things, comfort, beauty, abundance. He's not waiting for you to die to bless you—He wants you ENJOYING His goodness NOW.
