"Tithing on gross vs. net doesn't matter—God understands percentages and taxes."
How it sounds in your head: Taxes take a third before you see your paycheck. God's not unreasonable—He wouldn't expect you to tithe on money the government already took. Ten percent of your take-home is still honoring the principle without legalism.
"Honor the LORD with your possessions, and with the firstfruits of all your increase."
-- Proverbs 3:9Religion: splitting hairs to minimize obedience while feeling technically compliant.
You never actually see that gross amount—it goes straight to taxes. Tithing on net still gives the church 10% of your usable income. It seems like unnecessary legalism to give on money you never received.
Abraham gave Melchizedek a tenth of ALL the spoils—not 'all after expenses' or 'all after the king's cut.' He gave off the TOP, before calculating costs, losses, or what he'd keep. That gross-level generosity triggered the covenant cutting in Genesis 15 where God blessed him beyond measure.
I REFUSE the lie that net is good enough. IT IS WRITTEN: Honor the LORD with FIRSTFRUITS of ALL increase—that means GROSS, before anyone takes a cut. I don't give God leftovers after Caesar; I honor Him FIRST. I walk in the BARAK blessing Abraham walked in when he gave Melchizedek a tenth of ALL spoils—GROSS generosity triggered covenant blessing. IT IS WRITTEN: The windows of Heaven open to those who bring ALL the tithe to the storehouse. I'm not looking for loopholes—I'm looking for open Heaven. I tithe on gross and watch God work in my net.
The Father sees you calculating percentages and whispers, 'Son, are you trying to honor Me or minimize the cost?' He's not counting pennies—He's watching your heart, and when you honor Him FIRST with the gross, He makes sure the net is more than enough because you positioned yourself under the blessing, not the bare minimum.
