"Tithing is just Old Testament law—we're under grace now, not required to give ten percent."
How it sounds in your head: I've heard the arguments that tithing was only for Israel under the law. Jesus never commanded a percentage. Seems like churches use this to control people and fund buildings.
"Here mortal men receive tithes, but there he receives them, of whom it is witnessed that he lives."
-- Hebrews 7:8Source: Religion's pendulum swing from legalism to license, missing the heart of covenant partnership.
Galatians says we're not under law, and tithing is mentioned in Leviticus with all the ceremonial stuff we don't follow. No New Testament command gives a specific percentage, so it seems optional.
After rescuing Lot, Abraham gave a tenth of everything to Melchizedek the priest—430 years BEFORE the law was given. This was covenant worship, not legal requirement, and God blessed him into the father of nations.
I REFUSE the lie that tithing is obsolete legalism. IT IS WRITTEN that Abraham my father gave tithes to Melchizedek before any law existed, and Jesus is my High Priest in that same order. I don't give from obligation—I give from the overflow of being Abraham's seed under the BARAK blessing. IT IS WRITTEN in Hebrews that Jesus LIVES to receive my worship through giving. Grace doesn't decrease generosity, it explodes it. I am not under law's condemnation, but I walk in covenant's abundance. My tithe isn't religious duty—it's a daughter's partnership with a Father who owns cattle on a thousand hills.
Your Father didn't free you from the law so you could hoard—He freed you TO generosity without guilt. He's not shaking you down; He's inviting you into the family business of outrageous abundance that makes no mathematical sense.
