"This mental illness proves I don't have enough faith for healing."
How it sounds in your head: If I really believed, I'd be healed. Depression and anxiety feel like failure of faith. Other people get breakthrough—maybe my belief is too weak, too contaminated with doubt. Maybe I'm the problem.
"He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform."
-- Romans 4:20-21Source: Religion that weaponizes Matthew 17:20 to blame sick people for their sickness, making healing about human faith performance instead of God's grace gift.
The condition remains despite prayer, so the enemy's accusation that 'your faith is insufficient' has apparent evidence. Mental illness is uniquely shamed in church culture as spiritual weakness.
Brought his son to the disciples and they couldn't heal him—the father said to Jesus, 'If You can do anything, have compassion.' Jesus said, 'If you can believe, all things are possible.' Father cried, 'I believe; help my unbelief!' Jesus cast out the demon IMMEDIATELY despite the father's admitted doubt.
I REFUSE the lie that my mental illness proves weak faith. IT IS WRITTEN that the father cried, 'I believe; help my unbelief!' and Jesus healed his son anyway—my doubt doesn't disqualify me. Abraham was strengthened in faith by looking at GOD'S faithfulness, not measuring his own. IT IS WRITTEN in 2 Timothy 2:13, 'If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself.' My healing rests on HIS faithfulness, not my faith perfection. I receive healing NOW as the gift it is.
Your Father doesn't measure your faith with a scale before releasing healing—He runs toward you with compassion like He ran to the prodigal, while you're still doubting, still struggling, still covered in the mess of the mental battle.
