"My anxiety and panic attacks are God's way of getting my attention spiritually."
How it sounds in your head: Maybe I've been distant from God, and this mental torment is His wake-up call. Maybe if I were more prayerful, more surrendered, the panic would stop. It feels like punishment for spiritual neglect.
"For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind."
-- 2 Timothy 1:7Religion painted mental health crises as spiritual failures, making God the sender of torment instead of the healer of minds.
Church leaders say 'Perfect love casts out fear,' implying your anxiety proves insufficient love or faith. Every panic attack feels like evidence you're failing spiritually, not that you're under attack.
Terrified in a violent storm, boat filling with water, woke Jesus in panic. He didn't counsel them through fear or let the storm 'teach' them—He REBUKED the wind and said to the sea 'Peace, be still!' IMMEDIATELY there was great calm. He addresses fear by destroying its source, not by prolonging the terror.
I REFUSE the lie that panic attacks are God's spiritual wake-up call. IT IS WRITTEN that God has NOT given me a spirit of fear—He gave me power, love, and a SOUND MIND. Anxiety is NOT His voice; it's enemy assault. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus REBUKED the storm causing terror and commanded 'Peace, be still!'—immediate calm, not prolonged lesson. I stand under the BARAK blessing where God keeps me in perfect peace. I command fear to GO NOW, the same authority Jesus used to silence the storm—one word, instant result, great calm in my mind.
Your Father isn't sending panic attacks to get your attention—He's the God of peace who guards your heart and mind (Philippians 4:7). He silences storms, not creates them for curriculum.
