"This chronic condition is my cross to bear—God wants me to suffer with grace."
How it sounds in your head: I've had this for fifteen years. If God wanted to heal me, He would have by now. Maybe this is my thorn in the flesh, like Paul. Maybe suffering makes me more Christlike. I should stop asking and just accept it.
"Who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed."
-- 1 Peter 2:24Religious teaching that glorifies suffering and mistakes enemy attacks for divine pedagogy.
She's prayed for years without visible change. Well-meaning Christians have told her, 'God's grace is sufficient in your weakness.' She's been taught that accepting suffering is spiritual maturity, and fighting it is rebellion or lack of faith.
She suffered twelve years, spent all her money on doctors who made her worse, and lived as a social outcast. One touch of Jesus' garment and she was IMMEDIATELY healed—Jesus didn't say, 'This suffering is making you holy,' He said, 'Daughter, your faith has made you well.'
I REFUSE the lie that God authors sickness or calls it my cross. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus bore my sins AND my sicknesses on the tree—He already carried what religion tells me to carry. My cross is following Him, not embracing disease. IT IS WRITTEN that it is the FATHER'S GOOD PLEASURE to give me the Kingdom, and the Kingdom is righteousness, peace, and joy—not chronic pain. I am redeemed from the curse of the law, which includes EVERY sickness in Deuteronomy 28. The BARAK blessing is mine through Christ—the blessing includes HEALTH, not heroic suffering. I receive healing NOW as my covenant birthright!
The Father isn't testing your endurance with disease—He already tested His Son with the full weight of sin and sickness at Calvary so you could go free. Like the father who didn't make the prodigal prove his repentance through a punishment period, your Father isn't making you prove your faith through a suffering season—He's already made you whole.
