"I must have hidden sin causing this sickness—God is punishing my secret struggles"
How it sounds in your head: I know about the porn. The drinking last weekend. The anger toward my dad. Maybe this diagnosis is God's way of getting my attention. He's punishing me until I clean up. I need to confess everything and get right before He'll heal me.
"But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin."
-- 1 John 1:7Enemy weaponizing Old Covenant consequences to create false guilt, ignoring that Jesus took ALL punishment at the cross
Old Testament stories of judgment through sickness (Miriam's leprosy, Uzziah's leprosy, etc.) get preached without the New Covenant context. Hidden sin creates shame that makes punishment feel deserved.
Disciples asked 'Who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?' Jesus said 'NEITHER'—sickness isn't always about sin. He healed the man INSTANTLY to display God's works, no sin-confession required, no repentance process, just mud, spit, and SIGHT.
I REFUSE the lie that sickness is punishment for my sin. IT IS WRITTEN: the blood of Jesus cleanses me from ALL sin—not just confessed sin, ALL sin. There is therefore NOW no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. Jesus took my punishment at Calvary—every bit of wrath I deserved, He absorbed. IT IS WRITTEN: by His stripes I WAS healed—He was punished so I could be healed. Sickness was in the CURSE of the law; Jesus redeemed me from the curse. The BARAK blessing protected Jacob the DECEIVER and Judah who slept with his daughter-in-law—the blessing was NEVER based on behavior but on COVENANT. I'm in the BETTER covenant sealed with the blood of GOD'S SON. My sin was dealt with 2,000 years ago at the cross. IT IS FINISHED.
Your Father isn't punishing you—He already punished Jesus in your place. Every stripe on Jesus' back purchased your healing. The prodigal's father didn't punish him for the prostitutes and pig pens; he threw a PARTY. You're not getting what you deserve (punishment). You're getting what JESUS deserves (blessing).
