"This cancer is my thorn in the flesh, just like Paul had, to keep me dependent on God."
How it sounds in your head: Paul was a great apostle and even he had a thorn. Who are you to expect perfect health? God is using this cancer to keep you humble, to make you pray more, to keep you from being too self-sufficient. Maybe this is actually a blessing in disguise.
"But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed."
-- Isaiah 53:5Misinterpretation of 2 Corinthians 12:7 applied as universal suffering theology; religion equating sickness with spiritual maturity.
The diagnosis came right when life was good, which feels like God keeping you from pride. Pastors reference Paul's thorn in every healing conversation, making suffering sound noble and necessary.
God sent word through Isaiah: 'Set your house in order, for you shall DIE and not live.' Hezekiah wept and prayed, and before Isaiah left the courtyard, God sent him BACK with a new message: 'I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; I will ADD fifteen years to your life.' INSTANT reversal of a death sentence.
I REFUSE the lie that cancer is God's tool to teach me. IT IS WRITTEN that by Jesus' stripes I AM healed—not will be, not someday, but right now in covenant reality. Paul's thorn was NOT sickness; every time Jesus encountered disease He destroyed it as the devil's work. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus went about doing good and healing ALL who were OPPRESSED by the devil. Cancer is oppression, not instruction. I am a branch connected to the Vine, and sickness doesn't flow from Jesus into me. I am Abraham's seed, blessed coming in and going out, and the curse of cancer was nailed to the cross. My body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, and healing is my covenant right.
The Father didn't send cancer to make you pray more—He sent Jesus to destroy the works of the devil, including every cell of sickness. Right now, while you're reading this, He's running toward you with the robe of health, not waiting for you to 'learn the lesson' first.
