"This autoimmune disease is just my cross to bear, my suffering that glorifies God."
How it sounds in your head: Jesus said to take up your cross and follow Him. Maybe this disease is your cross—your sacrifice, your way of identifying with Christ's sufferings. Other people have their crosses too. This is how you relate to Jesus' pain.
"Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, 'Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree')."
-- Galatians 3:13Twisted 'cross' theology that confuses suffering with sanctification; misapplication of taking up cross as accepting sickness.
The language of 'bearing your cross' is everywhere in church culture, and sickness feels heavy like a cross. Pastors praise people who 'suffer well,' making disease sound like spiritual maturity.
Religious leaders said she should wait until after Sabbath for healing, but Jesus called her a 'daughter of Abraham whom Satan has BOUND for eighteen years' and declared she 'OUGHT to be loosed.' He didn't say 'bear it well'—He destroyed the bondage IMMEDIATELY.
I REFUSE the lie that sickness is my cross to bear. IT IS WRITTEN that Christ REDEEMED me from the curse, and autoimmune disease is IN that curse. Jesus carried the cross so I could walk FREE, not so I could carry sickness. IT IS WRITTEN that He was wounded for MY transgressions, bruised for MY iniquities, and by HIS stripes I AM healed. I am a daughter of Abraham, and Jesus said I OUGHT to be loosed from what Satan bound. The BARAK blessing means health in going out and coming in. My cross is denying SELF-WILL, not accepting Satan's affliction. I am the healed, the whole, the restored—sickness has no legal right to my body bought by covenant blood.
The Father isn't asking you to carry what He already carried. Jesus took the cross TO the cross so you could have LIFE abundantly. Right now He's saying what He said to that woman bent over for 18 years: 'Daughter of Abraham, you OUGHT to be loosed'—not someday, not after you've proven something, but RIGHT NOW.
