"The years I spent caring for my difficult aging parent were stolen from my own life."
How it sounds in your head: I gave up years—my health, my retirement plans, my freedom. I changed diapers for the parent who abused me. They never said thank you, never apologized, never acknowledged what I sacrificed. Those years are gone and I got nothing in return.
"And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart."
-- Galatians 6:9Enemy convincing him sacrifice was loss rather than seed, turning service into scorekeeping.
The sacrifice was REAL. The years of caregiving were exhausting, thankless, costly. His own health declined. His retirement dreams postponed. The parent remained difficult until death—no deathbed redemption, no Hollywood ending.
Gave up her homeland, her people, her chance at remarriage to care for bitter mother-in-law Naomi who had nothing to offer her. Looked like sacrifice with no return. God gave her Boaz, wealth, land, and she became grandmother of KING DAVID—in the Messianic line.
I REFUSE the lie that caregiving years were stolen. IT IS WRITTEN that I SHALL REAP in due season. Those years were SEED, not loss. Every sacrifice was seen by the Father who rewards in secret. IT IS WRITTEN in Matthew 6:4 that what is done in secret, the Father rewards openly. My parent's inability to thank me doesn't diminish Heaven's gratitude. The BARAK blessing promises that I am blessed in all I do—including caregiving. I lend to many and borrow from none. The Lord commands blessing on my storehouses. What looked like loss was actually investment in an eternal account, and the RETURNS are coming. I declare harvest season over every area that felt like sacrifice. The years are not stolen—they are SEEDS about to produce a crop that will astound me.
The Father watched every sleepless night, every thankless moment, every time you chose love when you felt nothing but exhaustion. He's been keeping accounts, and the payback is about to be EXTRAVAGANT. The prodigal's father had been fattening the calf the whole time.
